The Monteverde area of Costa Rica is high up in a Cloud Forest and home to a specular array of animal and plant life.
Your guide will pick you up at your lodging and drive you to the reserve where your wonderful nature experience will begin. Stopping to see beautiful plants, trees that are hundreds of years old, and stunning views. Learn about the history of the Monteverde area and keep your eyes open and discover the abundant birdlife including the Quetzal. Your guides know that different bird calls and will help with photos. You may be lucky and see sloths, monkeys, tapirs, coatis, and much, much more.
You have your choice of three reserves to explore, choose from Monteverde Cloud Forest, Santa Elena Cloud Forest, or Curi-Cancha Reserve. All tours include a nature tour guide, transportation*, reserve entrance fee, snacks, and drinks. Tours last approximately 3-hours. On a clear day, you can see both, East and West coasts of Costa Rica.
Monteverde (MV) Cloud Forest Reserve is 728 hectares (1,800 acres) and was opened to the public in 1975. Home of the Tropical Science Center, this area has four distinct “life zones”. There are over 755 species of trees and over 500 types of orchids, the most on Earth in one area. It is also home to 53 types of frogs, 71 types of snakes, 3 types of monkeys, and 157 different types of birds. The hiking trails are approximately 5 kilometers.

Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve is located inside the Pajaro Campana Biological Corridor and is part of a Conversation for Education program that started in 1992. The reserve opened in 1972 and is 764 hectares (1,890 acres) with approximately 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) of hiking trails.

Curi-Cancha reserve opened in 1997 after 45 years of allowing the 83 hectares (210 acres) to be taken back by nature. With 7 kilometers (4.4 miles) of hiking trails, you may see 200 species of birds including the beautiful Quetzal, Bellbird, Motmot, and Trogon. On the property, there have been frequent sightings of Coatis, Kinkajou, Ocelot, Sloths, and 3 types of monkeys.
