This early morning volcano 3-in-1 excursion includes a trip to the top of the Poas Volcano, a coffee tour, and a visit to the famous Peace Waterfall Gardens. Breakfast and lunch are included.
Not far from San Jose is the active Poas Volcano at 2,708 meters (8,885 feet) with a crater that is over 1,600 meters (5,250 feet) wide. The drive is amazing. Sit back and enjoy the views. Once at the volcano, you can admire the view down into the lagoon, located 320 meters (1,050 feet) below. Because of the elevations and weather systems, there is the possibility of thick fog rolling in.
After spending time at the Poas Volcano you will head to a working family-run coffee plantation that has been producing coffee since 1940. On the way, you will pass strawberry farms, cheese makers, and fishponds. Here you will be treated to a delicious breakfast before starting your tour. You will tour the plantation, see harvesting, and roasting demonstrations. This tour is a hands-on experience complete with sampling so do not be shy, step up, and give it a try.
After the coffee tour, you will be taken to the La Paz Waterfall Gardens, also known as the Peace Waterfall Gardens.
At the gardens, you will be treated to a 4-star lunch and then enjoy an afternoon of walking through the tropical rain forest, waterfalls, and over 100 animals on exhibit plus a butterfly enclosure. There are 5 waterfalls, 3.5 kilometers (2.1 miles) of paved trails, frog ponds, snakes, big cats, and a hummingbird garden. This is not a zoo but an ecological educational center. In the wild, on the property, they have spotted many species of birds, three types of monkeys, armadillos, anteaters, raccoons, coatis, and much more.
The tour starts at 6 am with pick up at your lodging* and last approximately 10 hours.
