Guanacaste has long been a cattle country in Costa Rica and where you have cattle you have cowboys and horses.
There are three wonderful and different experiences for you to enjoy Rincon de la Vieja atop a beautiful, well-mannered, and happy horse.
2-Hour Horse Tour and Waterfall Swim
The first option is a 2-hour horseback tour where you will ride through the jungle forest heading to two beautiful waterfalls. The first stop is a set of twin waterfalls with crystal clear blue mineral water. You can go down into a little canyon and jump into the shallow pool below the waterfall to cool down. The next waterfall is the tallest in the area at 35 meters (115 feet). The surrounding canyon is stunning and the pool at the base of the waterfall is inviting with cool crystal-clear water. You are invited to jump in and relax before heading back to the ranch.
Tour times are at 8:30 am, 10 am, 1 pm.

4-Hour Horse Tour with National Park Hike and Waterfall Swim
The second option is a 4-hour horseback including a 3 ½ kilometer (2 ½ miles) hike in Rincon de la Vieja national park with a visit to a waterfall. Leaving the ranch, you will ride up to the Rincon de la Vieja national park where you will start your hike to the Las Pailas, “The Cauldrons”, where you will see volcanic bubbling mud pool and fumaroles steaming sulfur. This is the most active volcano in Costa Rica! Along the jungle forest hike, keep your eyes open for two types of monkeys and other animals including over 300 species of birds. After the hike, you will ride to 25-meter (82 foot) waterfall with fresh, clear water surrounded by lush vegetation. You are encouraged to jump in for a refreshing swim and to enjoy the beauty.

6 hours Cowboy For A Day Tour
The next option is to be a cowboy for a day or as they are called in Guanacaste “Sabanero” and that means an early start. At 8 am you will begin by milking the cows and delivering the milk to the kitchen where it will be processed. Once there you will have breakfast then get ready for your day on the ranch. At 8 am riding into the hacienda with big, beautiful fields all the way to the foot of the Rincon de la Vieja volcano. Along the way you will help the Sabaneros with their chores, some of the activities include checking on and herding cattle and horses, fence repair, and so on. Lunch is included. You will also be working in the stables and corrals, preparing horses for other riders and other tasks as needed giving you an idea of what the life of a cowboy in Costa Rica is like.
